Description

This two-day workshop presents an overview of thesaurus design principles, methods for building a controlled vocabulary, and an examination of selected controlled vocabularies. The goal of the course is to prepare catalogers to defend the use of controlled vocabularies and to participate in the development of specialized thesauri or glossaries for specific projects.

Topics covered will include:

  • Introduction to controlled vocabulary and thesaurus design
  • Types of controlled vocabularies
  • Thesaurus planning and design
  • Thesaurus construction and development
  • Hierarchical structure and relationships
  • Thesaurus display and navigation
  • Thesaurus implementation and management
