Description
This two-day workshop provides attendees with a solid foundation in the principles and practices of online resource cataloging using current descriptive cataloging standards (AACR2/MARC21) and practices (LCRI/CONSER/PCC). It’s designed for practicing catalogers from all types of libraries who have a working knowledge of the MARC21 bibliographic format and AACR2.
At the end of the workshop, catalogers will

Understand the concepts behind the 2002 AACR2 revisions and how they affect electronic resource cataloging

Know what tools to consult to support the online resource cataloging process

Be able to catalog online monographs, serials, and integrating resources

Be able to correctly update integrating resource records to reflect changes to the resource
-
Have a better understanding of how record sets and machine-generated cataloging can be used to support electronic resource record processing
The impact of automation and electronic content on the practice of collection development will be woven through the workshop.
Additional Information
This workshop is part of the “Cataloging for the 21st Century” continuing education series, which offers practicing catalogers instruction in bibliographic control practices that will help them continue to play a significant role in shaping library services in the emerging digital information environment.
