Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe and Kelly S. Janousek

Vice-president/president-elect
Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe is coordinator for information literacy services at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), a position she has held since 2002. She is also head of the undergraduate library at UIUC, a position she has held since 2006. From 1998 to 2002, she was library instruction coordinator at Illinois State University. Hinchliffe also worked at Parkland (Community) College where she served as reference librarian (1996–98).

Her activities in ACRL include serving as chair of the Blog Advisory Board (2008–present), chair of the Instruction Section (IS) Nominating Committee (2007–present), and cochair of the National Conference Innovations Group (2007–present). She served as a member of the Information Literacy Competency Standards Review Task Force (2007–08). Hinchliffe was a member of the Institute for Information Literacy Executive Committee (2006–07, 2002–03), Institute for Information Literacy Undergraduate Student Surveys Group (2004–07), and Institute for Information Literacy Best Practices Advisory Panel (2000–03). She was chair of the Instruction Section (IS) (2005–06), member-at-large (2000–03), and secretary (1998–99). Her service on IS committees includes the Dudley Award Subcommittee (2006–07), Research and Scholarship Committee (1999–2000), Skill Areas for Instruction Librarians Task Force (1998–99), Membership (1995–97), Name Change Implementation Task Force (1995–96). She chaired the Information Literacy Advisory Committee (2006–07 and 2000–02). Hinchliffe served on the National Conference Contributed Papers Subcommittee (2005–07) and Preconferences Subcommittee (2001–03). She was a member of the First-Year Experience Task Force (2003–04) and Focus on the Future Task Force (2001–03). She served on the Distance Learning Section (DLS) Guidelines Committee (1999–2001) and chaired the Community and Junior College Libraries Section (CJCLS) Technology Committee (1997-98).

Hinchliffe’s work with state and regional associations includes service in the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois, where she is currently a member of the Public Services Working Group (2006–present). She currently chairs the Instruction Librarians Group (2006–present), which is part of the Center for Library Initiatives, Committee on Interinstitutional Cooperation (Big 10+). She served on the LOEX Advisory Board (2000–07). Hinchliffe was a member of the Association of Research Libraries Task Force on Library Roles in Enhanced Environments for Teaching and Learning (2006), Library Assessment Conference Planning Committee (2005–06), and Learning Outcomes Working Group (2003–05). She served on the Illinois Library Association Awards Committee (2001–03) and the Illinois Association of College and Research Libraries, where she chaired the 2001 Program Planning Committee and the 2000 Preconference Program Planning Committee (1999–2000).

Her publications include coauthor of “Teaching the Teachers: Developing a Teaching Improvement Program for Academic Librarians,” The Expert Library: Staffing, Sustaining, and Advancing the Academic Library in the 21st Century (forthcoming, ACRL); “The Future of Information Literacy,” The Information Literacy Instruction Handbook (ACRL, 2008); and coauthor of “Beyond Classroom Construction and Design: Formulating a Vision for Learning Spaces in Libraries,” Reference and User Services Quarterly (2005).

Hinchliffe received the University of Illinois Library School Alumni Association Leadership Award (2003), ONLINE Word Best Practice Award (2000), and Jane B. and Robert B. Downs Professional Promise Award (1995). She was selected to participate in the Frye Leadership Institute (2003) and UCLA Senior Fellows Program (2003) and elected to Beta Phi Mu (1994).

She received her master’s of education and master’s of library and information science from UIUC. She earned her bachelor of arts from the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota).

Kelly S. Janousek currently serves as librarian at the California State University (CSU)-Long Beach, a position she has held since 1988. She was assistant professor and social science librarian at Mississippi State University (1984–88).
She chaired the Law and Political Science Section (LPSS) (2007–08) and currently serves as past chair (2008–09). Janousek also served as LPSS member-at-large (2004–06). She was a member of the LPSS Library Instruction Committee (2003–05), Marta Lange/CQ Awards Committee (2000–03), Membership Committee (2003–06), and Research Committee (2007–08). She chaired Sections Council (2007–08) and serves on the Membership Advisory Committee (2004–05, 2008–present).

Janousek chaired the RUSA Business and Reference Services Section (1999–2000) and served as member-at-large (1994–97). She has served on numerous RUSA committees, including the John Sessions Memorial Award for Service to Labor Community Committee (2004–06), Membership Committee (1996–98), and Professional Development Committee (1994–96). She was a member of the Business and Reference Services Section Conference Planning Committee (1990–92 [chair], 2004–06), Conference Program Coordinating Committee (1992–95), and Development Committee (2001–05).

Her work with state and regional associations includes the California Academic and Research Libraries (CARL), where she serves as membership director on the executive committee (2004–present), and cochaired the 2004 Conference Planning Committee (2002–04). She was member-at-large on the California State Universities Executive Committee (2000–02). She served as principal investigator for the American Association for Higher Education New Pathways II Grant Leader (1999–2001).

Janousek’s publications include co-author, “The Benefits of Pilot Testing: Post-Tenure Review at California State University, Long Beach,” Post-Tenure Faculty Review and Renewal Experienced Voices (American Association of Higher Education, 2002); United States Supreme Court Decisions, 1778-1996: An Index to Excerpts, Reprints, and Discussions, 1980-1995 (Scarecrow Press, 2001); coauthor, “A Five-Step Plan to Redefine Workload: An Academic Library Case in Progress,” Continuity & Transformation: The Promise of Confluence, Proceedings of the Seventh Association of College and Research Libraries (ALA, 1995).

She received the CSU-Long Beach Outstanding Greek Advisor Award (2007); Betsy Bradley Leach Leadership Award, Southern California Lamplighters (2000), and was elected to Beta Phi Mu.

Janousek received her masters in library science from the University of Pittsburgh and earned her bachelor of arts from Western Michigan University.
