Why study twentieth-century southern history? Even during the cultural homogenization of the twentieth century, the South remained perhaps the most distinctive region of the United States. Daniel has sifted through all the materials on the subject to produce a generous, representative sample of the many fine offerings on twentieth-century southern history.
