Summary of Features and Articles

December 2008

Editorial: Reflections from Liberty Square, by Irving E. Rockwood. On the occasion of Choice's impending relocation to its new office space, Rockwood explains how the magazine came to be located in Connecticut.

Groping for Words: A Guide to Slang and Usage Resources, by Edwin L. Battistella.

Battistella covers all the major style guides--normative, prescriptive, academic, popular--and usage preceptors, from Noah Webster to William Safire. He evaluates more than 120 resources, including Web sites.

Significant European Scholarly Titles, 2007. This annual Choice feature, compiled by members of the College and Medium-Sized Libraries Discussion Group of ACRL's Western Europe Specialists Section, lists noteworthy nonliterary European titles published during 2007, in Italian, French, German, and Spanish. The list supplies standard Choice bibliographic information, plus prices in euros when available and a brief summary of contents. A list of vendors is included.

Forthcoming Art & Architecture Publications, 2007. This annual feature highlights print and electronic reference titles scheduled for publication from November 2008 through mid-2009. Each of the titles on the list was suggested by the publisher and then selected by Choice for its relevance to undergraduate curricula.

On the Cover: Ford Library, The Fuqua School of Business, Duke University, Durham, NC. Meg Trauner, Ford Library director. Les Todd, Duke photography. Perkins and Will, design architect of record, Breeden Hall.
