Opening Keynote, Michael Eric Dyson is one of the nation’s most renowned public intellectuals. He is the Avalon Foundation Professor in the humanities, religious studies and Africana studies at the University of Pennsylvania and was named by Essence magazine as one of the 40 most inspiring African-Americans. |

Filmmaker, John Waters will speak at the keynote luncheon. He is known for films that push the boundary of conventional propriety and censorship. His film Hairspray was turned into a hit Broadway musical that swept the 2003 Tony Awards. |

National Public Radio’s award-winning legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg will close the conference. Her reports air regularly on NPR’s critically acclaimed newsmagazines, All Things Considered, Morning Edition, and Weekend Edition. She is also a correspondent for ABC’s Nightline and a regular panelist on Inside Washington. |
