Leslie Hozmie, chair of the Marta Lange Award Committee said, "As the first and only global studies librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Lynne has made a number of contributions to the library profession through articles published in books, peer reviewed and general academic library journals and through a host of presentations both at home and abroad....Through her Web site created for the Global Studies Library at UIUC she continues to engage users in international studies."
Brian E. Coutts, chair of the Marta Lange Award Committee said, "Lisa was selected in recognition of her distinguished service to ACRL as Chair-Elect and Chair of LPSS, for outstanding research on access to government information and public presentations nationally and internationally; and for her distinguished teaching as a Public Affairs and Government Librarian and as an Adjunct Professor of Library Science."
This year’s winner is Binh Le, Associate Librarian at Pennsylvania State University at Abington. Binh was selected for his outstanding scholarship including bibliographic work on Vietnam’s Economic Transformation, 1986-2000 and his research on Asian Gangs in the United States; for his active service to the profession in LPSS and as chair of the Asian, African and Middle Eastern section of ACRL; and for his outstanding work for the Library and Education Assistance Foundation for Vietnam (LEAF), an organization dedicated to improving libraries and librarianship in Vietnam.
Prof. Graham Walden, subject specialist for communication, Germanic languages and literatures, and humanities and social science reference at the Ohio State University Libraries, is the recipient of the 2006 ACRL LPSS Marta Lange/CQ Press Award. The award was presented June 24 at ALA Annual. In selecting Walden for the award, the committee recognized his significant contributions to the field of librarianship through research and publications and his service to the profession and the Ohio State University. Walden is an expert on the literature of public opinion polling and survey research. His major publications in these areas include: Public OpinPolls and Survey Research: a Selective Annotated Bibliography of U.S. Guides and Studies from the 1980’s; Polling and Survey Research Methods 1935-1979: An Annotated Bibliography; and Survey Research Methodology, 1990-1999. He has also published two book chapters, two peer-reviewed journal articles, and over 100 book reviews. Walden has also served on many ACRL committeesmany of which were with LPSS. He chaired the Marta Lange/CQ Press committee in 2003-04. He served as president of the Government Documents Roundtable of Ohio (1989-1990) and as a member of the program committee and the resolutions subcommittee of the Ohio White House Conference on Library and Information Services (1990). He has also served on many important committees at Ohio State, including its promotion and tenure committee.
At the 2005 ALA Annual Conference, more than 40 colleagues honored the ACRL LPSS Marta Lange CQ Press Award recipient Merle Slyhoff, Document Delivery & Auxiliary Services Librarian and Lecturer in Law, Biddle Law Library, University of Pennsylvania. Slyhoff holds an exemplary record of leadership and service in the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL), ALA and LPSS, as well as scholarship and research. Her other significant contributions include the creation of the AALL’s Document Delivery Caucus in 1994; the Video and DVD collection at the University of Pennsylvania’s Biddle Law Library; and a web site to support a distinctive law school course entitled Law and the Holocaust. She has also been the General Editor of Law Books in Print since 2001.
Congratulations to the 2004 Marta Lange/CQ Award winner Lucia Snowhill, Collections Coordinator, Donald C. Davidson Library, University of California, Santa Barbara. Lucia has demonstrated over many years the kind of commitment to LPSS that has made her a standout. Lucia has been active in a number of committees and has been the editor of the section newsletter. Collection responsibility has been in the area of social sciences, particularly political science, law, and government documents.
The late Rosemary Allen Little, public administration, politics and law librarian at Princeton University Library, has been named the 2003 recipient of Marta Lange/Congressional Quarterly (CQ) Award. The award, established in 1996 by the ACRL Law and Political Science Section (LPSS), honors an academic or law librarian who has made distinguished contributions to bibliography and information service in law or political science. "The letters of nomination commend Rosemary Little as a lifelong champion including selfless dedication to the promotion of access to government information," said Committee Chair Connie Salyers Stoner. "She helped found the ALA's Government Documents Round Table (GODORT) through which she furthered awareness of international and foreign government documents. "Her career path at Princeton was a model of excellence in the areas of mentorship, professional development and international engagement," Stoner continued. "Several of her Princeton faculty colleagues praised her commitment for working with people at every stage of their academic careers, from undergraduates to advanced scholars. She treated students with the same professionalism, dedication and respect she accorded senior members of the faculty. Virtually everyone who has spent any time in the Princeton Politics Department has a positive story to tell about her professionalism and love of knowledge." Little received her A.B. from Douglass College in 1960 and her M.L.S. from Rutgers University in 1961.

Congratulations to the 2000 Marta Lange/CQ Award winner Grace York, Coordinator, Documents Center, University of Michigan Library! Grace exemplifies the qualities we seek in awarding the Marta Lange/CQ Award. Her numerous contributions to the profession, in the form of articles, web sites, committee work, and speaking engagements have shown her to be a vital source in furthering the cause of government information, both domestically and worldwide.
Jolande Goldberg Receives Marta Lange/CG Award
Laura Gasaway, Director of the Law Library and Professor of law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is the recipient of the third annual Marta Lange/CQ Award. An expert in copyright law, Professor Gasaway has taught numerous workshops, and spoken at many conferences nationwide. She has an impressive record of publication on topics ranging from copyright to women in the law and sexual harassment. She also has a distinguished record of service in the American Association of Law Libraries, serving as its president in 1986-87, and in the Special Libraries Association, which honored her with the John Cotton Dana Award in 1987.
Grace W. "Betty" Taylor – 1997 Grace W. "Betty" Taylor, Director of the Legal Information Center and Clarence J. TeSelle Professor of Law, College of Law, University of Florida, is the recipient of the second annual Marta Lange/CQ Award. Professor Taylor has a long and distinguished career of blending librarianship, law and computers. She is a national and international leader in law library automation, a true pioneer in the field. Her career is replete with firsts, including the honor of being the first woman to hold an endowed professorship at the University of Florida. She has an impressive record of sharing her knowledge and expertise through publications, presentations, and committee service.
