A Selected List of Pedagogical Journals in Fields Outside of LIS

The purpose of this list is two-fold:

  • To provide sources of current awareness in disciplinary and higher education pedagogy

  • To provide suggested venues for publication outside of library literature

For instruction librarians in an academic setting, there is value in keeping up with pedagogical scholarship not only in the library literature but also in the literature of other disciplines and of higher education in general. One can set up alert services or RSS feeds to receive tables of contents (TOC) or even the full text of articles according to criteria of one’s choice. In addition, librarians who plan to publish pedagogical articles may also be interested in publishing in journals outside the library literature in order to reach a faculty audience in disciplines other than library and information science.

For these reasons, the ACRL Instruction Section Research and Scholarship Committee provides here a selected list of pedagogical journals from non-library academic fields that focus on instructional strategies within higher education disciplines, organized by broad category. Criteria for inclusion of journals in this list are:

  • English-language
  • peer-reviewed
  • higher-education focused
  • pedagogically focused
  • published in the United States

This list will be updated every three years (next update 2010). Additional details may be found in the Committee Publications Details & Revisions Schedule (pdf).

Categories:

  • Higher Education (general)
  • Arts and Humanities
  • Sciences and Mathematics
  • Social Sciences

In addition, here are selected citations to sources on the process of getting published.
