Committee Appointment Information

As the Vice-Chair of the ACRL Instruction Section (IS), I invite you to participate in IS by becoming an Instruction Section member and by volunteering to serve on an IS committee. Serving as a member or an intern of an IS committee provides you with a wonderful opportunity to interact with your colleagues as we all work together to accomplish our important mission.

I will be making most appointments to IS committees shortly after the 2010 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Boston, and these appointments will take effect following the 2010 ALA Annual Conference. I anticipate needing volunteers for the following IS Committees:

  • Awards
  • Communication
  • Conference Program Planning 2011
  • Discussion Group Steering Committee
  • Information Literacy Best Practices
  • Information Literacy in the Disciplines
  • Instruction for Diverse Populations
  • Instructional Technologies
  • Local Arrangements
  • Management and Leadership
  • Membership
  • Mentoring Program
  • Nominating
  • Peer Reviewed Instructional Materials Online
  • Planning
  • Policy and Publications Review
  • Professional Education
  • Research and Scholarship
  • Teaching Methods

In order to serve on an IS Committee, you must be an ALA member and an ACRL IS member. You may serve as a committee intern for one year or as a full committee member for two years with the possibility of reappointment for a second two-year term. Interns serve as recording secretaries for committees and update the committee web page with content from the committee chair during their one-year tenure and are then appointed to serve as full members once they have completed the internship. Intern positions are particularly appropriate for first-time volunteers. Please keep in mind that committee members and internsexcepting those members with virtual appointments, must be able to attend all scheduled IS committee meetings at the Annual Conferences and must participate in the virtual committee meetings prior to the Midwinter Conferences during their tenure on a committee.

To volunteer, simply complete the Committee Volunteer Form on the IS web site. If you wish to serve as an intern, send me an email message to express your interest after you have completed the Committee Volunteer Form.To receive more information about the IS committee appointment process, please feel free to contact me at the e-mail address below.

I am looking forward to working with you!
