Too Much Information! or Printer-Friendly Printouts

Many times we find websites with great information, but we may only need a portion of what is included. Other times, we just need the text information, and would prefer not to waste precious ink cartridges on unneeded graphics. As your child is searching for a website for information to do an assignment, he may locate great stuff on a site that may have several printed pages, but he may only need one page of the information. Most websites do not allow you to highlight and print just a selection. The website may have wonderful color graphics, but they are not needed for this particular assignment. Here is a helpful hint for just printing what you need and conserving those ink cartridges as well as paper. A simple copy and paste technique will do the job.

Directions for printing just a portion of a website:

1. Open either Microsoft Word or Notepad. Open a new document and then minimize it.
2. Go out on the Internet and locate the website information that you need.
3. Highlight the text needed by clicking on the left mouse button and dragging across the text. It should turn color, usually blue.
4. Go to Edit in the pull-down menu and click on “copy.”

1. Maximize the document from Word or Notepad.
2. Left click on the first line of the new document.
3. Go to Edit again and choose paste.
4. Your text should appear.
