AASL National Conference Travel Stipend Application

Purpose and Criteria

The purpose of these stipends is to enrich the experience of Spectrum Scholars and to provide networking opportunities for the scholars within the profession during the AASL 14th National Conference and Exhibition, "Rev up learning @ your library," in Charlotte, North Carolina, November 5-8, 2009.

Number and Frequency of Stipend

Four one-time stipends consisting of $750.00 to be applied to travel and housing expenses. Recipients will also receive:

  • Complimentary registration to the AASL 14th National Conference.
  • Mentorship for the duration of conference and recognition at a conference function.

Selection Criteria

Applicant must show demonstrated interest in school librarianship through coursework and/or professional experience, be an AASL member, and be a first time attendee at an AASL conference.

Application

Please answer the following question in the form of an essay of not more than 300 words:

How will you benefit and what do you hope to achieve by attending this conference?

Include the following information at the top of your application:

Name, Home Address, Home Telephone, Place of Employment or School Currently Attending/Attended and Email Address

Please also include a current resume, curriculum vitae, or unofficial transcript.

Special Requirements

Stipend recipients must submit to the AASL office a 300 word report following the conference (no later than December 1, 2009). This report must include a section on how the knowledge gained will impact the recipient’s career and may be published in AASL’s print and electronic publications or used in AASL promotional materials.

Please return applications by email to the AASL office email icon or send to AASL National Conference Travel Stipend, 50 E. Huron Street, Chicago, IL, 60611. Applications also accepted by fax at 312-280-5276. Each applicant will receive a confirmation email upon receipt of their materials.

Deadlines

Applications are due on September 14, 2009. Winners will be announced/notified on or about September 23, 2009.
