Dispositions of the Exemplary School Librarian
Dispositions are observable behaviors that provide a framework for building exemplary professional practice. Participants will learn how to acquire, model, and teach the Dispositions-in-Action identified in the AASL Standards for the 21st-Century Learner.
Webinar Objectives
The participants will:
- Make connections between the dispositions and other character education initiatives.
- View and deconstruct lesson plans that have incorporated the dispositions.
- Learn various methods for assessing the dispositions.
Meet the presenter
Jami Jones is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Library Science at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Jami is a member of the first cohort in 2002 to receive National Board Certification in school library media. In 2001, Jami established the Amanda Award through the Florida Association of Media in Education that recognizes school librarians who develop programs to promote student’s resilience and self-esteem. Since then she has authored numerous articles and books about resiliency and the role of the school librarian to improve academic achievement and strengthen at-risk students. Her most recent research interest is dispositions of exemplary school librarians. Her collaborator on this topic is Gail Bush, Professor of Reading at the National-Louis University in Chicago.

Anyone that purchases the L4L Webinars will receive one (1) contact hour per webinar. Upon purchase, a certificate will be mailed. AASL is not an accredited agency. The participant is responsible for exchanging the contact hour for continuing education (CE) credit through their district.
