AASL Seeks School Library Presentations for ALA 2010 Annual Conference
The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) invites proposal submissions for 1-1/2 hour concurrent sessions or half- to full-day preconference professional development programs to be held during the 2010 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference. Submissions will be accepted through Monday, May 31, 2009. Be a part of this exciting professional development event - join other school library media specialists and share your expertise in this national forum showcase of best practices, developments, and ideas on the future of school libraries.
As in previous AASL presentations, program content must address at least one of the three areas of responsibility: Learning and Teaching, Information Access, or Program Administration, as identified in Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning.
How to submit your proposal
Complete the online Proposal Submission Form. Fill it out completely. You may stop and finish your proposal at a later date before May 31, 2009. Incomplete proposals will not be considered.
The deadline for submissions is 5:00 p.m. CDT, Monday, May 31, 2009.
Proposals must be include the following:
- Complete contact information for all speakers. Please note that the person submitting a group proposal will be considered the Program Organizer and the main contact for the presentation.
- Presentation title
- Specify program length - whether it's a concurrent session (1 1/2 hours), or a preconference (half- or full-day)
- Program outline. The description should be approximately 300 words, should outline the main points of the program, its relevance to attendees, and how you would incorporate at least one active learning exercise in your session.
- Tentative program description. This description should be 75 words or less. If your proposal is accepted, this description will be used in promotional materials. Please include at least three learning objectives.
- Support of AASL Strategic Plan as well as the Standards for 21st-Century Learners. Outline how your program would support both of these plans.
Selection Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated for clarity, originality, and timeliness. Incomplete proposals will not be considered. Special attention will be given to proposals that incorporate one or more of these characteristics:
- Demonstrates innovative thinking and/or new perspectives
- Presents strategies for effectively implementing new ideas and technology
- Incorporates at least one active learning exercise
- Design includes activities that will incorporate various learning styles
- Demonstrates how learning outcomes would be achieved
- Supports the AASL strategic plan
