"I see three challenges for our association. First, we must recruit new members, encourage full participation, and demonstrate how they get a fair return on their investment of time and money. We can accomplish this by providing guidance in the use of the new learning standards and guidelines, increasing our presence at state and regional conferences, and continuing to provide quality professional development that is easily accessible. Second, we must mentor newer members of the association and encourage them to move into leadership positions. By proactively recruiting newer members to participate in committee work and AASL sponsored professional development, we guarantee a pool of qualified members ready to step into leadership roles. Finally, we must effectively advocate for the role of the school library media program and library professionals in the larger educational community through their journals and conferences. If elected, I will work hard to accomplish these goals."
