Accomplishments
My previous experience includes 5 1/2 years of work within the Office of Learning Resources for the Indiana Department of Education. Within this capacity I assisted other associates within the areas of reading and technology and coordinated Indiana's Read-Alouds “Too Good to Miss” Program for a couple of years. My work within this unit enabled me to visit and observe numerous school library media professionals coordinating many programs and initiatives within their media centers. I have also written and/or reviewed for numerous professional publications, including Library Media Connection (including the former publications of Library Talk, Book Report, and Technology Connection), MAME Journal, Media & Methods, and the former Indiana Media Journal.
Statement
I enjoy being active within the profession and would appreciate another opportunity to serve this organization. Funding and staffing have long been hot topics within our profession. With current economic conditions we must also be vigilant about protecting media services and programs. AASL must be a proactive force for school library media programs and personnel. It is important to lobby for school libraries and school media personnel with every opportunity. I try and participate as much as possible in ALA's Advocacy Days in Washington, D.C. and encourage others to do so. We must also continue to connect with student achievement and work to promote our programs and ideas with other viable organizations. I have become involved in fields involving communication. I believe we must communicate our needs and concerns within the school library media field if we are to be effective agents for change.
