Statement

Michelle Kowalsky is assistant professor and coordinator of the school library media program at William Paterson University, a NCATE/AASL nationally recognized SLMS preparation program. Her main interest is in technology for teaching and learning in the library media center, and the ways in which we can encourage our SLMS peers to stay current. Previously, Michelle was a public school SLMS and English teacher for 15 years, and has worked as an adjunct and reference librarian at the college level. She is also a current NBCT of Library Media, and has served in numerous leadership roles among her peers, both on the job and in professional organizations. If elected chair of the Supervisors Section, Michelle will encourage coordination with other AASL sections, identification of learning opportunities for members in the areas of leadership and management, and assistance in communicating the new AASL Learning Standards and Guidelines to SLMSs around the country.
