Statement
As leaders in our profession, it is essential to envision new opportunities to provide services to our students and staff. We can move forward by expanding existing research and demonstrating the accountability that school library programs are vital for supporting student learning. We can achieve this by developing models that improve library instruction by linking them to identified student performance assessments. As leaders, we need to develop the capacity of the library media specialists to participate in collaborative building/district based initiatives that use student achievement data to make instructional and program decisions. We also need to balance this with the love of reading and instilling the desire for life long learning.
