Statement
School librarians today play a major role not only in the libraries they serve, but in the buildings and districts in which those libraries exist. Our roles in schools are ever-expanding, commanding those in our profession to become involved in not only the education of our students, but in the professional and administrative expanse of our district. AASL serves to provide the structure within which school librarians today can serve and be successful in these roles. From the conference to the Standards for the 21st-Century Learner to online institutes and publications, AASL provides support, professional development, and networking for the school librarian today. All of this is indispensable to the school librarian in today’s schools. As Director-elect and subsequently Director of Region One, I will practice these ideals in my daily work and publicize the full palate of resources that AASL has to offer.
