SLMR Highly Ranked among Research Journals

A study which replicates and updates the classic Kohl-Davis Study was presented last week at the National Library Research Seminar III in Kansas City

The new study reported results of ranking the value of over seventy library/information science refereed research journals and their importance in supporting promotion and tenure decisions (Nisonger and Davis 2005).

Ratings were taken from the Deans and Directors of the ALA-accredited MLS degree programs in North America earlier this year.

The rating scale was 0 to 5 with 5 indicating the journal to be of very high importance and prestige in P&T review, specifically in relation to the candidate's area of specialization for research and teaching.

School Library Media Research (SLMR) was ranked 16th, placing it among the top twenty in this highly competitive field. SLMR was the top-ranked journal related to the school library media field and is the only online journal that ranked among the top twenty.

The study will be published in 2005 and is authored by co-researchers Thomas Nisonger and Charles Davis of Indiana University.

The 2004 ratings among LIS Deans and the ranking of the research journals is given below for the top twenty:
