Nationally recognized NCATE/AASL reviewed and approved school library media education programs

For school library media specialists, the appropriate first professional degree is either of the following:

Prospective students will want to review the guidelines for choosing a master's program in library and information studies.

The following is a list (by state) of school library media programs that have been reviewed and approved by AASL's program reviewers using the ALA/AASL Standards for Initial Programs for School Library Media Specialist Preparation. Under the AASL Standards, program recognition is tied to NCATE unit accreditation. AASL does not review school library media programs that are not affiliated with an NCATE-accredited unit.

The date in parentheses is the date of the next NCATE unit accreditation review. Where the date of the next unit accreditation review has passed, the seven-year review date will be updated as NCATE announces it. You can also view a list of all programs ever recognized by AASL.
