Collaborative Leadership
"Learning comes not from the activity, but from thinking about the activity." - Unknown
To make the most of this AASL Licensed Institute:
Before Coming...
PREPARE
- Clarify your personal goals
- Write 3 goals on a card and put in your planner to bring
- Do the homework
- Ask a colleague what they'd like you to bring back
During the Day...
MEET PEOPLE
CAPTURE IDEAS
- Capture your ideas in key words
- Highlight ideas and add notes to the workshop materials
- Make your notes as clear as possible as you write since there's never time to rewrite
DEVELOP MEANING
- Relate what you hear to your own interests
- Relate ideas and techniques to your projects and priorities
- Listen actively by thinking how you can use the information
- Recognize all the ways the information reinforces what you are doing
PARTICIPATE
- Ask questions
- Make contributions
- Encourage others to participate through your listening
- Help facilitate in groups
ENJOY
- Decide to have fun and be recharged
- Focus on possibilities, not risks
- Try something "out of character"
- Take responsibility for your own comfort
PLAN AHEAD
- Make notes on specific actions you plan to take
- Write specific plans on your calendar while enthusiasm is fresh
- Set up an appointment share ideas with a colleague within the next two weeks
When You Get Back...
CONNECT TO OTHER AGENDAS
- Report back to and thank whoever helped you to attend
- Contact three people (groups) whose agenda you might support with your learning
- Use the workshop as an excuse to write about your ideas
- Start a "study group" to discuss leadership priorities
