Trustee and Friends Membership

Personal Membership in ALA is available at discounted rates for library trustees, friends, and advocates.

Trustees in public and academic libraries are encouraged to join ALA and ALTA, the Association for Library Trustees and Advocates, a division of ALA. Trustees are in a unique role in the community and the Association provides relevant resources to help educate trustees in good governance and empower trustees as active advocates for library issues at the local, state, and national levels. Trustees will find a network of board members from around the country and a knowledge base that has truly 'seen it all.' The questions you have and the challenges you face can find answers among fellow ALA and ALTA members while connecting you to the wider world of library advocacy.

Friends of Libraries are critical to the success of libraries, providing funding and volunteer support that does more than make the library run – it provides a link to the community that goes beyond customer service. Individual Friends are encouraged to join ALA to help create a future for libraries of all types that includes close community support and is responsive to the communities served. Personal Membership in ALA makes Friends eligible to participate on committees that coordinate events like National Library Week, Banned Books Week, and Library Legislative Day. Make the choice to be a Trustee Member and bring your Friends group to the national stage.

Get started as a member today by joining ALA online.
