Date = June 24, 2007
Group = Public Library Technology Interest Group
Chair = Paul Keith/Irmgarde Brown (co-chairs)
Reporter = Paul Keith
Email = pkeith@chipublib.org
Conference = Annual
Meeting = Interest Group business meeting
Attendees = 13
Current Activities:
Most of the business meeting was spent in a
discussion led by Scott Reinhart and Bob Kuntz of Carroll County (Md.)
Public Library. The theme of the discussion was moving library
technology forward and tips included being willing to take a chance (but
always have a fallback plan) and cooperation with outside agencies, with
several projects at Carroll County used as examples. As the discussion
broaded to attendee concerns, issues arose such as circulating
library-owned laptops, troubleshooting patron's devices and computers
(as opposed to library-owned machines), and gaming and streaming video's
effect on library network bandwidth.
Future Activities:
The group is
planning a program for annual 2008 on several web sites that offer help
to libraries struggling with technology issues, especially public
computing issues.
