2005 Annual Conference Meeting Minutes
GROUP: Internet Resources Interest Group
CHAIR: Laura B. Cohen
REPORTER: Laura B. Cohen
MEETING: Interest Group business meeting
ATTENDEES: 9
CURRENT ACTIVITIES:
- Chair Matt Calsada reviewed the Interest Group's program that took place on the previous day, "Implementing a Federated Search Tool." We had a full house of attendees, approximately 200-250. The response to the four speakers was positive based on program evaluation results. Laura Cohen will post all the PowerPoint presentations on the IG's Web site.
- Matt reviewed program topics over the past few years. The IRIG continues to have a history of putting on successful programs at ALA Annual Conferences.
- Incoming Chair Laura Cohen managed a discussion of the 2006 program topic. She pointed out that the main activity of this IG has been to put on pre-conferences and programs at Annual. After considerable discussion, the members decided on the topic "Who Controls the Future of Search?" The format might be a debate or panel discussion, and include speakers from dot-coms and librarian implementers. Laura will present this topic proposal to the LITA Program Planning Committee during the Annual Conference.
[Post-meeting update: The proposal was accepted by the Program Planning Committee.]
- Holly Yu, past Chair of the IRIG, was elected Vice-Chair. The group is appreciative of her ongoing support of the IG.
- Matt reviewed the communication vehicles for the IG: the Web site and the IG's discussion list LITA-IRIG. Laura is currently Web Manager for the LITA IGs, so she is able to post content to our site.
FUTURE ACTIVITIES:
- Laura and Holly will identify speakers for the 2006 program.
- Discussion on the program topic will take place on LITA-IRIG.
