Virtual Committee Membership

Pilot Project

The project's goal is to encourage LITA committees to request one or two virtual members be added to their roster. The long-term benefit of virtual committee membership is to involve more LITA members, particularly new members, in the business of the association without requiring that the members attend Midwinter and Annual Conferences.

LITA members who want to participate, but are unable to attend both ALA conferences are invited to volunteer for virtual committee appointments as part of a two-year pilot project to evaluate the viability and benefits of virtual membership.

Virtual Committee Members Requirements:

  • Members of ALA and LITA
  • Ability to communicate electronically
  • Commitment to work continuously year-round, reporting to the committee chair before the Midwinter and Annual meetings
  • Participate in the evaluation of the project

Committee Requirements:

  • Complete a substantial amount of committee activities between meetings
  • Structure activities that allow substantive contributions of a virtual member
  • Participate in the evaluation
