Honoraria and Reimbursement Policies
The LAMA Board of Directors approved the adoption of the following policies on June 23, 1990: Publications Honoraria are not paid to authors or editors of LAMA publications. Library Administration & Management editors are reimbursed for their expenses, in an amount determined by the Board of Directors, due to the extensive amount of work required. LAMA will continue to retain royalties. On occasion, a publication may be commissioned for which payment or partial royalties will be paid. (Approved, LAMA Board of Directors, June 23, 1990)
Conferences Normally, neither honoraria nor expenses are paid to ALA members for participating in LAMA conference programs. (Approved, LAMA Board of Directors, June 23, 1990)
Preconferences The following guidelines apply to ALA members participating in LAMA preconferences: Registration Fee Speakers shall not be required to pay the preconference registration fee. The preconference chair and co-chair shall not be required to pay the preconference registration fee. All other members of the preconference committee or members assisting in the distribution of handouts, audio-visual, etc. shall be required to pay the preconference registration fee. Expenses Speakers shall receive reimbursement for one night's hotel stay (at the average cost for ALA conference hotels) plus a per diem for those meals not provided as part of the preconference. Expenses shall not be provided to the preconference chair or co-chair, or to any members of the preconference committee. In accordance with ALA policy, honoraria and travel expenses will not normally be paid to ALA members unless recommended by the Program Committee at the time the preconference budget is approved by the Board. Institutes The present system of honoraria will continue, with standards for consistency to be worked out by the LAMA staff in conjunction with the Special Conferences and Programs Committee. (Approved, LAMA Board of Directors, June 23, 1990)
National Institutes The following guidelines apply to LAMA or ALA members participating in a LAMA National Institute: Registration Fee Speakers will not be required to pay the National Institute registration fee. All members of the National Institute Planning Committee, including the chair, co-chair, Steering Committee members, standing and ad hoc committee members, and members assisting in National Institute business either prior to the event or on-site, will be required to pay the National Institute registration fee.
Honoraria and Expenses The keynote speaker(s) will be eligible for an honorarium as determined by the National Institute Steering Committee. the keynote speaker(s) will also be reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses, lodging at the National Institute facility, and a per diem allowance for meals not provided as part of the National Institute. General session and program track speakers (non-ALA members) will be eligible for honoraria as determined by the National Institute Steering Committee. General session and program track speakers who are members of ALA will not be eligible for honoraria. Speakers, both member and non-member, will be reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses, lodging at the National Institute facility, and a per diem allowance for meals not provided as part of the National Institute. No support for travel, lodging or meals will be provided to members of the National Institute Planning Committee, including the chair, co-chair, Steering Committee members, standing and ad hoc committee members, and members assisting in National Institute business either prior to the event or on-site.
