International Assistance

  • ALA Library Fact Sheet 12 - Sending Books to Needy Libraries: Book Donation Programs
    The American Library Association does not accept or distribute donations of books or any other materials, though we provide this of the various groups and organizations that accept book donations for distribution in the United States or internationally.
  • Assistance to Iraqi libraries
    The American Library Association (ALA) has received a $20,000 grant from the Working Assets Grant making Fund of the Tides Foundation to provide children's books to public libraries in Iraq. The Near East and South Asia Subcommittee of the ALA International Relations Committee (IRC) will oversee the project, connecting with Iraqi librarians to select children's books in Arabic, Kurdish and other languages.
  • Iraq-Meeting on Iraqi Cultural Heritage, UNESCO
    Report on the meeting on Iraqi Cultural Heritage, UNESCO. The founder members of the International Committee of the Blue Shield: the International Council on Archives (ICA); the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS); the International Council of Museums; and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), were all represented at the meeting of experts called by UNESCO on April 17, 2003 to discuss the damage to Iraqi cultural heritage caused by the war.
