In an effort to provide a more cohesive service, the American Library Association has been working to unite all of its employment sources. These efforts were realized over the last year with the unveiling of our new job site, JobLIST. It is designed to give employers and job seekers access to information on a year-round basis.
Because JobLIST is now fully operational, the Placement Service will no longer have its own independent job-listing site. Job postings will now have to be placed on JobLIST at www.joblist.ala.org, and will be based on the rates listed on the site.
We will continue to provide on site interviewing facilities, as well as career guidance workshops at the ALA conferences.
The Placement Center will be located in the convention center, and will operate during the following days and times at the 2008 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA:
| Friday, June 27, 2008 | 12:00 Noon to 5:00 p.m. | ||
|
|
Saturday, June 28 | 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
|
|
Sunday, June 29 | 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
|
|
Monday, June 30 | 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. |
| JOB SEEKERS |
Job seekers should now register and search for jobs on the JobLIST web page. All services are still free to job seekers.
There is no cost to register. Registration is not required to view job information. However, it is to the job seeker's advantage to do so. It will give registered employers access to your resume information. It will also allow for direct communication between you and the employer.
There will be an orientation for job seekers on Friday, June 27, 2008 from 11:30am to 12:00 Noon in the Placement Center.
If you need help getting your resume polished off, stop by the Placement Center while you are at conference. The New Members Round Table provide resume critiquing service to conference attendees. The service is free.
There will also be a number of free workshops on interviewing, resumes, cover letters, etc. Check on the Tips & Tricks page of JobLIST for the dates, times, and locations.
If you are not quite sure where your career is headed, or if you would like to make a move but just are not quite sure what to do next, you will want to sign up for time to talk with our professional career coach. She will be in the Placement Center and available on Saturday and Sunday of the Annual Conference.
