Librarian and Author
Nancy Pearl

Oh, the places you will go

There are more than 117,000 libraries throughout the United States. In addition to public libraries in almost every community, there are thousands of libraries in schools, colleges and universities, hospitals, law firms, businesses, the armed forces and more! Depending on the size and type of library, you will find career paths as diverse as you can imagine.

In order to better find out what you need to know, you'll need to understand the type of library job you are interested in. Although not completely essential at this point, it's also helpful to start thinking about the type of library that interests you.

Want to read more about the different types of libraries?

Time out: See a gallery of a wide variety of libraries and collections.
