WHEREAS, the Library of Congress has effectively demonstrated the feasibility of cataloging federal documents with the Government Printing Office on a cooperative basis, and
WHEREAS, the Library of Congress has encouraged a library or agency within each state to act as the cataloging authority for publications of their respective states, and
WHEREAS, the Library of Congress has indicated the necessity for standardization of bibliographic records,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the American Library Association encourages the Library of Congress to establish a pilot project for the cooperative cataloging of state publications with several states representing various differences in population and geographical location, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the results of the project be carefully evaluated and documented for implementation on a national level.
