COMMENDATION OF GPO ON MICROFORM PROGRAM

WHEREAS, one of the basic purposes and responsibilities of the Government Documents Round Table, Microforms Task Force of the American Library Association is to encourage and further the publication and use of government documents in microform in order to better serve public information needs, and

WHEREAS, The Government Printing Office, through the Superintendent of documents, Carl La Barre and John D. Livsey of the Library and Statutory Distribution Service, has been responsive to the needs and interest of libraries, librarians, and their public by initiating and conducting a pilot project of publication of government documents in microform,

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Microforms Task Force members commend the Government Printing Office, Mr. Carl La Barre and Mr. John Livsey for their responsiveness to the public need for information and look forward to the opportunity to review and react to their report on the pilot project, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Task Force members recommend and request that the Government Printing Office continue publication of Government documents in microform on a selective basis as feasible to fulfill its statutory obligations to depository and non-depository libraries and to the citizens of the United States.
