RESOLUTION ON THE FIRING OF PAT COATSWORTH

WHEREAS: Any Library that has assumed the major responsibility of depository status for government publications such as U.S. federal, Illinois state, United Nations, UNESCO and other related publications requires an adequate professional staff to acquire, maintain, organize, and service the collections, and,

WHEREAS: Such a major operation in any library requires a senior librarian or department head to coordinate the many services and activities involved in serving the faculty, students and other users, and,

WHEREAS: The University of Chicago Library summarily dismissed the Head of its Documents Department for reasons unrelated to her performance as documents librarian on June 15, 1973, thereby seriously diminishing the quality of its documents service and raising many questions about the continuing qualifications of the University of Chicago Library for depository status,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the American Library Association Government Documents Round Table request of the University of Chicago Library administration the immediate reinstatement of its Documents Librarian, Ms. Patricia Coatsworth.
