Participate in one or both of these daylong community service efforts on Friday and Tuesday. Exact jobs to be determined as we work with the Washington, D.C. Public Library and community service groups. All participants will be notified in advance of the various projects and be able to pick the one in which they wish to participate. Your registration fee will be contributed to local library funds. Lunch, transportation and a participation t-shirt are included. This event requires registration. Tour the Newest Federal Government Library

The U.S. Census Bureau Library is celebrating the Grand Opening of our new building. Come join the Census' Library staff in touring our new facility. The new Bureau of the Census facility is a state of the art structure with 1.5 million square feet, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, who also designed America's tallest building, Chicago's Sears Tower. Glass and green-tinted concrete walls have a shield of willow farmed tropical species wood. The U.S. Bureau of Census is the largest statistical agency of the federal government and premier source of information about the American people & the economy. Bring Photo ID. Address is 4700 Silver Hill Rd., Suitland, Maryland, 20746. Take Green line Metro to Suitland-Federal Center stop and meet at Bureau of Census Security Gate. Library Day on the Hill

Join hundreds of fellow attendees for the rare opportunity to show the value of libraries to the Members of Congress. The day will include a Hearing on the Hill on the importance of all types of libraries, and displays around the Halls of Congress informing passers-by about each type of library and the services they provide. Buses will take participants to the Hill in the afternoon to visit your members offices with colleagues. You'll be prepped with informational handouts, perfect for educating Members on the impact libraries have on people's lives, and invite them to join you for a special reception, which will take place that night from 4-6 pm, a perfect time for you to continue to interact with Members of Congress and Hill staffers.
