Mental Health Services for Deaf People: A Resource Directory
Gallaudet University’s Research Institute has published a revised edition of Mental Health Services for Deaf People: A
Resource Directory, for use by mental health professionals and deaf consumers. The Directory contains a
comprehensive listing of more than 150 programs that provide mental health services to deaf individuals across the United
States and Canada.
The provision of appropriate mental health services to deaf individuals has always posed a challenge to the mental health
and deafness fields. Problems encountered have included frequent difficulties in identifying service providers who are not
only professionally trained in the mental health fields, but who are also knowledgeable regarding the unique cultural- and
language-related considerations of deafness. The developers of this volume believe that a national directory of mental
health professionals who serve deaf clients represents a significant step towards improved accessibility and accountability
in this special field.
The Directory is available for $14,95 per copy, plus postage and handling ($4 for a single copy), from the Gallaudet
Research Institute. See gri/gallaudet.edu/Publications/
for more information.
