Gallaudet University Library Deaf-Related Online Resources
Tom Harrington, Reference & Instruction Librarian at the Gallaudet University Library, has created two unique online resources that can help librarians find deaf-related information.
The Gallaudet University Library Guide to Deaf Biographies includes brief biographical information about 4,000 notable deaf and hard-of-hearing people as well as a few hearing people who have been important to the deaf community. Most entries also include references to other sources that contain additional information. A source list is included.
The Gallaudet University Library Index to Deaf Periodicals indexes articles in several deaf-related journals that are not indexed elsewhere. More than 19,000 articles are indexed, providing unique access to information about a wide variety of deaf-related topics.
Please note that these resources are indexes. Full text entries from the sources indexed are not included. Instructions for finding the items cited are included in the introductory information for each database. New entries are added to both resources regularly.
Access to these databases is free of charge. Go to the Gallaudet University Library's Web site and click on Deaf-related Resources. Then select Guide to deaf-related articles, databases, and other information. Both indexes are listed there.
