ASCLA administers seven awards and the Century Scholarship. Three committees administer these awards and are described below. Information on submission and applications forms are available from the ASCLA office (contact Eileen Hardy, ASCLA, 50 E. Awards are presented at the following ALA Annual Conference.
ASCLA Awards Committee
Charge: To administer and publicize the awards presented in the name of the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies; to review periodically the appropriateness of existing ASCLA awards; to make recommendations to the ASCLA Board of Directors with respect to proposed new ASCLA awards; to modify, eliminate, or suspend existing awards when necessary.

The following four awards generally require the same kinds of information that are delineated on the award nominations form referenced above. Those that follow the horizontal rule require additional information.
- Submit a nomination letter describing ways that the nominee fulfills the award's criteria.
- The nomination form is to be submitted to the Awards Committee chair.
- The résumé of the nominee or a description of his or her appropriate activities and contributions. This could include URLs for Web sites, awards, committee assignments and positions, publications, academic degrees, number of years of membership in professional associations, library brochures, library programs, etc.
- A maximum of three letters of endorsement may be included.
The descriptions below illustrate the general crietria defining the awards.
ASCLA Exceptional Service AwardA citation presented to recognize exceptional service to patients, to the homebound, to medical, nursing, and other professional staff in hospitals, and to inmates, as well as to recognize professional leadership, effective interpretation of programs, pioneering activity, and significant research of experimental projects.
ASCLA Leadership Achievement AwardA citation presented to recognize leadership and achievement in the following areas of activity: consulting, multitype library cooperation, and state library development. The award recognizes sustained activity that has been characterized by professional growth and effectiveness, and has enhanced the status of these areas of activity.
ASCLA Professional Achievement AwardA citation presented to one or more ASCLA members for professional achievement within the areas of consulting, networking, statewide service and programs. The criteria include: record of accomplishment in the development or promotion of statewide library services and programs or services and programs of multitype library organizations; contributions which improve and enhance the status of state library agencies or multitype library organizations; evidence of initiative in dealing with issues and challenges facing state library agencies or multitype library organizations.
ASCLA Service AwardA citation presented to recognize an ASCLA personal member for outstanding service and leadership to the division. The award recognizes sustained leadership and exceptional service through participation in activities which have enhanced the stature, reputation, and overall strength of ASCLA; representation of ASCLA to other appropriate organizations, institutions, or governmental agencies.
ASCLA/KLAS/National Organization on Disability AwardA $1,000 award and certificate for a library organization that has provided services for people with disabilities. The award recognizes an innovative and well-organized project which successfully developed or expanded services for people with disabilities. The award can be for a specific service(s) program or for a library that has made their total services more accessible through changing physical and/or attitudinal barriers. Donated by Aetna U. S. Healthcare beginning in 2000 through the National Organization on Disability. Sponsorship was passed to Keystone Systems in 2004.
Nomination proposal should include the following information (besides the assumed identification information):
- project title and period covered by the project
- specific goals
- long-term project goals
- methodology used to meet the specific goals (under "b"). Were people with disabilities included in identifying these goals?
- Describe activities carried out during the period described in "a"—include any documentation to support how the project goals were reached and increased opportunities for both acceptance and participation of people with disabilities in the community
- Describe how needed funding was secured and its source(s). Please include in-kind services (if applicable) and include number of volunteers and their estimated dollar value.
- Describe, if applicable, how the award money will be used and its anticipated result.
- The nomination form is to be submitted to the Awards Committee chair in six copies.
- Photographs may be submitted to document project activities.
- A maximum of three letters of endorsement may be included.
- Include materials from an LSTA or other grant application, reports, etc. as this is very helpful documentation.
- Include public relations materials as this is good supporting documentation.
Francis Joseph Campbell Award Description An award consisting of a citation and a medal presented to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of library service for the blind and physically handicapped. This contribution may take the form of an imaginative and constructive program in a particular library; a recognized contribution to the national library program for blind persons; creative participation in library associations or organizations that advance reading for the blind; a significant publication or writing in the field; imaginative contribution to library administration, reference, circulation, selection, acquisitions, or technical services; or any activity of recognized importance. Administered by the Libraries Serving Special Populations Section.
The Francis Joseph Campbell Award Committee is charged to select a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of library service for the blind and physically handicapped to receive the Francis Joseph Campbell citation and medal, to oversee the casting of the medal and the printing of the citation, and to arrange for the printing of the awards program activity, in cooperation with the ASCLA Awards Committee.

Century Scholarship An annual $2,500 scholarship that funds services or accommodation for a library school student or students with disabilities admitted to an ALA-accredited library school. The scholarship will fund services or accommodations that are either not provided by law or otherwise by the university that will enable the student or students to successfully complete the course of study for a Master's or Doctorate in Library Science and become a library or information studies professional.
Applicants must provide medical documentation of their disability or disabilities, services, or accommodations and/or services the applicant would need for their studies, demonstrate the need for financial assistance and be citizens of the United States or Canada.
