Organization Information
ALTA strives to educate and empower library trustees to advocate for and adopt library policies that promote the highest quality library and information services and ensure access to information for all.
ALTA Mission and Vision Statement
Founded in 1890 as the American Library Trustee Association, today’s Association for Library Trustees and Advocates (ALTA) is the only division of the American Library Association (ALA) dedicated to promoting and ensuring outstanding library service through educational programs that develop excellence in trusteeship and actions that advocate access to information for all.
ALTA Board of Directors
The Board manages the affairs of the association in accordance with ALTA Bylaws and policies. Board meetings take place twice a year--at the ALA Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference-- and the Board also has the authority to conduct business between meetings.

ALTA Committees - Get Involved
To carry out the work of the association, ALTA depends on the pooling of many talents, interests and backgrounds. Our members work together to benefit library trustees and advocates throughout the country. With more than 20 committees working in such areas as education, marketing, and advocacy, we welcome new volunteers and hope you will share your talents with ALTA.
