Welcome to the Advocacy Registry!
By Carol Brey-Casiano, ALA President
I am pleased to welcome you to the ALA/ALTA Advocacy Registry! The Registry is a new, joint project between the Association for Library Trustees and Advocates, the ALA Public Information Office, the Chapter Relations Office, and the ALA Washington Office. The Registry will advance ALA’s mission by forming a new network of library advocates, dedicated to proactively affecting and sustaining change in their communities.
I firmly believe that grassroots advocacy is the key to the success of our libraries. In an increasingly complex world, with increasing competition for funding, the library community must stand up and speak out for America’s libraries.
Our voices can be made stronger if we stand up and speak out in a unified voice. All library advocates must band together to make our voices heard. Once we convince community leaders and to citizens at large about the importance and necessity of libraries, they can begin to speak out for libraries at the state and national levels.
Thank you for your interest in library advocacy. Together, we can do it. ¡Si, si puede.—Carol Brey-Casiano, ALA President
