April Architecture ShowcaseEvery year, American Libraries’ April issue features articles and photographs spotlighting new, expanded, and renovated library buildings. A showcase of exteriors and interiors of all kinds, this special issue features some of the best in library designs, as well as accounts of successfully completed restorations. The editors invite librarians, architects, and interior designers to share their treasures with AL’s readers. In 2008, 27 projects were highlighted. Submissions for the 2009 facilities feature are now open. Unfortunately, not all submissions can be featured. To be eligible, projects must have been completed since October 1, 2007. To be considered, send the completed submission form, along with color prints, 35mm slides, or high-resolution digital images to American Libraries, Attn: Architecture Showcase, American Library Association, 50 E. Huron St., Chicago, IL 60611, by February 2, 2009. For more information, contact Greg Landgraf, 800-545-2433, ext. 4216. NEW! You can also now submit your project online via YouSendIt. You will need a free YouSendIt Lite account to send files. To submit online: First, compress your files (including pictures and submission form) into a single file using WinZip or a similar compression utility. Second, sign up for a free YouSendIt account to use the system. To do so, go to www.yousendit.com, click the “Sign Up” button, and sign up for the free “Lite” account. The system will ask you fairly standard account-creation questions (username, password, real name, and the like) and send you a conformation e-mail with the activation link. Once you’ve activated your account, log in and click the “Send” button. In the “To:” field, enter my address, glandgraf@ala.org. Input a subject and message if you wish, and click the “Browse” button to find and attach your file. Then click “Send It” and your files will be on their way. For more details about online submission, see the AL Inside Scoop blog. |
