Clinton Library to Get State Tax BreakAn Arkansas judge ordered October 12 that the state must approve the Clinton Presidential Foundation’s request for a $3.5-million tax break for the Clinton Presidential Library, scheduled to open November 18.Pulaski County Circuit Judge Willard Proctor Jr. ruled that a state program designed to promote “business enterprises” made no distinction between nonprofit and for-profit businesses when the foundation applied for the tax break in 2002, the Associated Press reported October 12. The Arkansas Department of Economic Development had claimed that nonprofits were ineligible for the program. Library officials say the dedication ceremony will probably draw many more than the 27,000 seats can hold, the October 13 Little Rock Arkansas Democrat Gazette reported. The event is expected to feature former President Bill Clinton as well as all of the other living former presidents. Posted October 15, 2004. |
