Americans for Libraries Council Receives $2.7-Million Grant

Atlantic Philanthropies, a Bermuda-based charitable foundation, has awarded a four-year, $2.7-million grant to the advocacy group Americans for Libraries Council in New York for its Lifelong Access Libraries initiative. The grant will enable the development of a nationwide network of libraries that offer a new model for library services focused on baby boomers and older adults making the transition to active participation in retirement.

“Libraries are uniquely positioned to help ensure that our communities benefit from the skills and experience of baby boomers,” said ALC President Diantha D. Schull. “We’re grateful that the Atlantic Philanthropies’ support will enhance aging in America through programs that transform libraries into beacons for older adults and their communities.”

The program will offer professional development opportunities for librarians in Arizona, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, all states with a high proportion of older adults.
