Naperville police arrested Richard J. Blaszak at his apartment June 15 and charged him with two misdemeanor counts each of sexual exploitation of a child and public indecency, the Chicago Tribune reported June 17. After posting $500 bail he was released from the DuPage County jail the following day. In their investigation police also determined that Blaszak committed a similar act at the library May 5.
Naperville Police Capt. Ray McGury said that despite Blaszak’s arrest, the dispute over the Illinois Library Records Confidentiality Act remains. “I still think their interpretation of the law is different from ours,” he said in the June 16 Tribune. McGury added that attorneys for the police department and the library are negotiating a compromise that would have the city indemnify the library against a lawsuit if it were to release confidential records to police without a court order, an action prohibited by the law.
