Eugene Book Thief Sentenced to Six YearsA Eugene, Oregon, man was sentenced June 29 to six years in prison for stealing books from the University of Oregon’s Knight Library and then selling them on eBay. Thirty-three-year-old Douglas Collver—who faces additional forgery and theft charges in two other counties—was also ordered to pay more than $25,000 in restitution, the Associated Press reported June 30.Noting Collver’s long criminal history, Lane County Judge Charles Carlson pointed out that he was being sentenced under the state’s repeat property offender sentencing law, which mandates prison time for minor thefts done by longtime offenders.
