Erie County Plan Keeps Four Branches OpenCouncilors approved a compromise plan July 27 to keep the four remaining branches of the Erie County (Pa.) Public Library open through July 2005. Presque Isle and Iroquois will stay open 54 hours per week, while the Edinboro and Millcreek Mall branches are slated for 35 hours per week.County Executive Rick Schenker had closed the Southeast and Liberty branches June 7, angering some members of the county council enough to delay shutting down three additional branches at least through August 1, the July 28 Erie Times-News reported. Councilman Mark DiVecchio, the lone dissenter in the 6–1 vote, said he opposed the plan because it did not permanently address the status of the branches. Posted July 30, 2004. |
