Search to Replace Fired Director Put on Hold

The search for a new director of the Mooresville (N.C.) Public Library has been suspended pending an appeal by former Director John Pritchard over his June 23 firing. In addition to filing a written appeal to the town commissioners, Pritchard has also retained a lawyer, the Charlotte Observer reported July 25.

Town Manager Rick McLean had indicated he hoped to hire a new director within 60 days, a goal that concerned some board members and residents. Margo Fesperman, the county sheriff’s office librarian, wrote in a letter to town commissioners that it appeared McLean’s “goal is to hire someone, anyone, just to say the position was filled.”

Board members said they wanted to put the search on hold until the issues surrounding Pritchard’s termination were resolved. “One thing we don’t need is two librarians,” said Commissioner Frank Owens.
