
According to the July 9 Star, the newspaper first requested the library to produce bills from Tabbert Hahn Earnest and Weddle on May 25, but decided on legal action when the documents were not produced by July 7.
Scott Treadway, an attorney representing the library, indicated July 7 that IMCPL had spent some $390,000 to pay lawyers as well as concrete and engineering consultants. In response to the suit, the firm indicated it would provide the information by July 13 and that the delay was caused because confidential material had to be deleted.
“The library project is now the costliest active public project in Indianapolis,” Star Editor Dennis Ryerson said, “and with that much at stake involving construction issues there needs to be accountability.”
“Our intent at this point is to protect taxpayer dollars,” commented Library Board President Mary Lou Rothe. “I’m a little disappointed that we seem to have become adversaries because of that.”
