Northern Kentucky Libraries on Alert for Flasher

Librarians at the Erlanger branch of Kenton County (Ky.) Public Library have added security cameras and posted warnings after a January 19 incident involving a man who exposed himself to a 5-year-old girl in the children’s section. The February 3 Cincinnati Enquirer reported that a similarly described man with salt-and-pepper hair exposed himself to two girls in the Florence branch of the Boone County Public Library one week later.

Police have warned other libraries in northern Kentucky to be on the alert for a possible serial flasher in their facilities. An e-mail sent to Campbell County library staff said in part, “We are not setting up a dragnet. We are trying to avoid a child (or anyone) being traumatized.”

This may be the second occurrence of this activity in the area. A man who was exposing himself to girls in libraries and parks in neighboring counties is in federal custody after being convicted on child pornography charges.
