Burst Pipes Close Provo Library

Sub-zero temperatures burst water pipes at the Provo (Utah) City Library at Academy Square during the three-day Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, forcing the library to stay closed January 16 and causing about $1,500 worth of damage to new books.

Library staff found water in the basement and the technical services room, which held computer equipment and new books that hadn’t yet been shelved, according to the January 17 Salt Lake City Deseret News. All of the computers were salvaged, however, and most of the books were protected by plastic wrap.

The library reopened January 17, although some repairs still need to be made.
