Library’s Ebay Name Sale Fails

Womelsdorf (Pa.) Community Library’s two Ebay auctions offering naming rights to the library failed to attract a buyer, leaving it $270,000 short of the funds needed for the first phase of an expansion project.

The first auction, which ran from January 31–February 9, attracted one bid for $325,000, but since the bid didn’t meet the library’s $375,000 reserve price, the bidder remained anonymous. A second auction from February 14–24 received no bids.

“We’re back to writing grants and doing more fundraisers,” said MaryAnne Beamesderfer, cochair of the library’s fundraising campaign, in the March 2 Lebanon Daily News. “It’s very disappointing.” She added that the library could lose some of its grant money if construction does not begin this summer.
