Bat Infestation Shuts Swaziland Library

The Swaziland National Library’s Simunye branch is temporarily closed after a bat infestation caused the ceiling to collapse after hours January 10.

Officials discovered the bats’ presence after the ceiling collapse, which was apparently caused by a buildup of bat guano and the weight of their nests. The infestation also left a foul smell in the building.

National Library Acting Director Nomsa Mkhwanazi confirmed the closure, according to a January 16 report in Cape Town, South Africa’s News 24.
